The Ketchikan City Council on Thursday approved the city’s mill rate, signed off on a liquor license for a new pizza restaurant on the West End and renewed the hospital lease for another decade.

The deadline for Ketchikan residents to submit exhibit pieces for the annual Southeast Alaska State Fair in Haines is coming up, and people interested in participating are encouraged to get their work ready to ship by July 13th.

The Ketchikan City Council meets in regular session tonight, Thursday, and will consider a resolution establishing a this year’s property tax rate.

Governor Sean Parnell visited Ketchikan Tuesday, and spoke to a group of Rotary members and gave an overview of opportunities in the state as well as Ketchikan.

Alaska Ship and Drydock has been qualified to compete for up to $46 million worth of work for the U.S. Army, such as drydock services, cleaning, painting, repairs and modifications to U.S. Army vessels.
