Ketchikan assault trial: Day 3

Testimony concluded today (Thursday) in the trial of a Ketchikan man accused of sexually assaulting his 14-year-old step-daughter. The accused – 50-year-old David Mason – was the final witness. Mason is charged with four separate counts of sexual assault on a minor from one incident, with a maximum penalty of over 300 years in prison.

Rescue squad stays ready for the next emergency

The Ketchikan Volunteer Rescue Squad was the first group on the scene of a deadly float plane crash in Misty Fjords more than a month ago. The rescue squad didn’t disband after that mission, however. They’re still training, making sure they’re prepared for the next time someone needs their help. Youth crew cleans Tongass, even under rain

The Youth Conservation Corps came to Ketchikan and the surrounding Tongass National Forest this past month to work with a local branch of the U.S Forest Service. That meant helping out timber crews, cleaning up around fisheries and clearing trails — rain or shine.
