The Ketchikan School Board met Saturday to consider creating a multi-age classroom plan. They decided against that, voting to move ahead with the previously approved plan to restructure elementary schools by grade level. School Board President Katherine Tatsuda spoke with KRBD about the challenges schools throughout the state are facing, and why the Ketchikan School Board decided to move forward with K-3rd grade at Pt. Higgins and Fawn Mountain, and 4th through 6th at Houghtaling Elementary.

“Ultimately we believe that that this will allow us the chance to provide a strong educational experience for our kids, to be able to support our staff and retain as much of our staff and programming as we possibly can,” Tatsuda said.
