About 150 people gathered outside of the big, pink Federal Building in downtown Ketchikan on Saturday as part of a nationwide protest of the Trump Administration’s policies.

Residents held signs saying things like “Economy wrecked, trust destroyed, no punchline” or “Make America kind again.” Many said things like “No kings,” “No dictators,” “No fascists.” One man waved an upside down American flag.

The crowd was all ages. Middle-aged men in full fishing gear held up poster boards that said things like “Hands off our constitution.” A younger member of the LGBTQ community held a sign saying “You can’t erase us.”

The federal building they stood in front of was recently listed by the Trump administration as a “non-core property” that the feds could sell off as part of their efforts to downsize the federal government.

People also protested the Trump administration’s treatment of Mexico and Canada, as well as what they saw as attacks on veterans’ benefits, the U.S. Postal Service, Medicare, and Social Security.
