The Ketchikan City Council appointed former member Abby Bradberry last week to fill a vacancy left by the resignation of Mark Flora. Longtime member Flora stepped down from the council on Feb. 20, saying he needed to focus on personal priorities.
During a special meeting March 17, the council interviewed four candidates interested in filling the seat. In addition to Bradberry, the council heard from Dion Booth and David Dentinger, who both ran last fall, and Bronson Olson, who ran in 2021.
Bradberry was elected in 2020 and served on the council for three years. She said she wasn’t quite ready to run again last October, but she is now able to dedicate the necessary time and energy to the position.
“Biggest thing for the appointment is I feel I could step into the position tomorrow and be able to pick up from the skills that I learned a year and a half ago and help kind of fulfill that interim period,” Bradberry said.
After more than an hour of questioning, the council voted by secret ballot, appointing Bradberry by a simple majority. She will finish out the remainder of Flora’s term until the October 2025 election.
