In the midst of the busiest travel week of the year, Ketchikan authorities sent out an alert Tuesday about airport parking during winter weather. When paying for parking on the Revilla side, drivers should enter the number “111” if the number on the spot where they parked is covered by snow or ice.

The advisory was sent out through the community’s Nixle alert system. Residents are encouraged to enroll in the system to receive email or text message alerts for things like power outages, street closures and public health notices. Community leaders started using the system in the wake of the August landslide, as a way of quickly disseminating updates and information to the public.

To enroll in the Nixle emergency alerts, you can text 99901, the Ketchikan zip code, to the phone number 888-777.
