A head-on collision Thursday between an SUV and a fuel tanker north of Ketchikan resulted in one injury and stopped traffic.

According to Alaska State Troopers, around 3:30 PM the SUV crossed into oncoming traffic on the Tongass Highway near Ward Cove, striking a tanker hauling diesel fuel. Troopers say there was no ignition or spilled fuel.

The driver survived the crash, but was transported to the local hospital for treatment of injuries. No other injuries were reported.

The highway was closed off and on for about an hour as crews removed the vehicles, with one lane open for most of that time. The cause of the crash is still being investigated, but Troopers say alcohol was not a factor.
