Two people were rushed to the hospital in Ketchikan Thursday after a motorcycle hit a tour bus and caught fire. That’s according to Alaska State Troopers and the South Tongass Volunteer Fire Department.
The crash happened around 11 a.m. south of town near the George Inlet Lodge. The initial investigation shows the motorcycle was taking a corner at high speed when the rider lost control and started sliding across the pavement. The motorcycle then hit the front passenger side of the tour bus and caught fire. Troopers say good Samaritans were able to extinguish the flames.
State troopers say the motorcyclist was seriously injured and rushed to PeaceHealth Ketchikan Medical Center. A bus passenger was also transported to the hospital with what troopers described as “non-life threatening injuries.” A third person sustained minor injuries and declined treatment, according to the fire department.
The names of the victims were not released, so an update on their condition was not available.
