The Ketchikan Police Department says they arrested a man this week on a felony charge of first-degree sexual assault.
Police identify the suspect as 36-year-old Peter Vansell of San Diego. A sworn statement filed in court by Ketchikan police states that Vansell and his alleged victim were in a brief relationship in 2015. Police say the two met up on Sunday, and the assault occurred that night in Vansell’s hotel room.
Vansell’s lawyer did not immediately respond to a request for comment.
Vansell is due back in court Monday. He’s being held in the Ketchikan Correctional Center on $15,000 bail.
