The Ketchikan Gateway Borough Assembly has a light agenda Monday night, but will hold two public hearings. The first is on an ordinance adopting the FY 2020 Borough-wide budget with the exception of local education funding. The second is to approve the FY 2020 School Budget and appropriations from the Local Education Fund.
The total budget authorizes $57.9 million in borough-wide expenditures. Of that, $13.4 million is in the General Fund and an additional $10.9 million is in the Local Education Fund. Following public hearings, the assembly will recess into a work session to discuss the budget.
In new business, the assembly will introduce a resolution providing for the levy and collection of taxes in 2019. There are no proposed changes to the current mill rates for FY 2020.
If either or both of the borough budget ordinances are not adopted Monday night, the tax resolution will be postponed until the next regular meeting on June 3rd.
Also Monday night, Borough Mayor David Landis will read a certificate in memoriam of Bill Williams who died May 12. Williams served on the Saxman City Council from 1972 to 1992, and as mayor of that body from 1976 to 1983. He served in the Alaska House of Representatives from 1993 to 2004.
The assembly also will recognize May 20, 2019 as Alaska Arbor Day.
The meeting begins at 5:30 p.m. in Borough Assembly Chambers in the White Cliff building. There will be time for public comment at the beginning of the meeting and during public hearings.
