The body of a 66-year-old Ketchikan woman was found in the water early Wednesday near Hole-in-the-Wall boat launch.

According to the Alaska State Troopers online dispatch report, law enforcement was called at about 7:30 a.m. that morning reporting a body in the water.

Troopers say Doretta Dowhitt appears to have fallen down a steep embankment near her home and into the water. A neighbor found her at approximately 6:30 a.m., ran down the embankment, pulled her from the water, and attempted life-savings measures while calling for help.

Dowhitt’s next of kin have been notified of her death. The body was to be transported to the State Medical Examiner’s Office in Anchorage for an autopsy.

Troopers say that alcohol appears to have been a factor.
