The City of Craig is hosting the second Prince of Wales Island-Wide Arts Extravaganza in early fall, but artists who want to show their work need to sign up by Tuesday.
Gretchen Klein is organizing the event. She said it is an opportunity to feature the island’s different artists. Last year, it was in Kasaan.
“We had over 100 artists last year, and around 300 people came from around the island and Ketchikan,” she said. “We knew it was well-received and wanted to continue it.”
Klein said they wanted to rotate the location, allowing different parts of the island to host. They chose Craig this year, and event organizers are getting assistance from the Ketchikan Area Arts and Humanities Council.
Klein said the City of Craig was the first sponsor to sign on. Craig City Administrator Jon Bolling said the city looks forward to the Sept. 15th event.
“The City of Craig is very excited to be the host community for the 2018 Prince of Wales Arts Extravaganza,” he said. “The City Council was enthusiastic and unanimous in its financial support for the event and we look forward to being a logistical supporting agency for the event as well.”
Mary Hailey is an event organizer, and says interested artists need to sign up soon.
“We do have forms available online. We have a Facebook page, Prince of Wales Art Extravaganza Facebook page, and there’s a copy of our entry form there,” she said.
The deadline to enter is Tuesday.
The Facebook page’s searchable name is POW Island Wide Arts Extravaganza. Once there, you can click on “photos” to find the form.
