The U.S. Secretary of Agriculture and Sen. Lisa Murkowski will be on Prince of Wales Island this week.
Sec. Sonny Perdue is on a “back to our roots” tour, according to a news release from the Department of Agriculture. It includes stops in Washington State, Idaho, Oregon and Alaska.
The Alaska stop is set for Thursday on Prince of Wales Island. Perdue and Murkowski will have a roundtable discussion with the Prince of Wales Landscape Assessment Team. They also will tour Viking Lumber Company, visit old-growth and young-growth forest stands with U.S. Forest Service officials, and visit small family-owned lumber mills.
The events will take place in Klawock, Control Lake and Thorne Bay.
