A 60-year-old Wadleigh Island man was arrested Wednesday for allegedly shooting at a fishing vessel participating in the herring fishery near that island.
Wadleigh Island is near Craig and Klawock on Prince of Wales Island. The herring fishery there started this week.
According to the Alaska State Troopers dispatch report, the report of the shooting was received at about 5 a.m. Troopers responded on their vessel, the Interceptor.
The dispatch report states that Donald Austin had fired multiple rounds with at least one round hitting a fishing vessel. He was arrested and charged with nine counts of third-degree assault, and two counts of weapons misconduct.
Troopers report that alcohol appears to have been involved.
Austin is scheduled for his first hearing Thursday.
