A program that ended August 31st has been restored. The U.S. Department of Veteran Affairs renewed a transportation grant to the State of Alaska. Effective November 1st, the Inter-Island Ferry Authority is authorized to issue free passenger and vehicle ticketing to qualified Veterans traveling for healthcare needs.
To participate in the program, Veterans must show qualifying identification. Valid forms of identification include an Alaska driver’s license or ID card with a VA endorsement, an Armed Forces of the United States ID card for retirees, a VA Healthcare Card or a VA Veterans Choice Card.
Travel under this program applies to IFA daily service between Ketchikan and Hollis, and the Ketchikan and Metlakatla route when the IFA is filling in for the M/V Lituya during annual maintenance.
