Two people were rescued Wednesday from a sinking fishing boat southwest of Ketchikan.
The U.S. Coast Guard says the fishing vessel Velvet ran aground and began to take on water in McLean Arm, in southeast Prince of Wales Island.
The fishing vessel William picked up the two. They were transferred to a Coast Guard response boat from Ketchikan. A Jayhawk helicopter crew from Air Station Sitka also responded.
No injuries were reported. Names were not immediately released.
The Coast Guard says the weather on scene was reported as overcast with 17-mile-per-hour winds and seas less than 4 feet.
The agency’s Ketchikan Marine Safety Detachment is monitoring the vessel and will contact the owner about developing a salvage plan.
