The Ketchikan School Board meets will meet Wednesday night. Agenda items include approving kindergarten as the minimum age for students to board or exit the school bus alone; accepting Board Member Colleen Scanlon’s resignation; and a continuing discussion related to the Fiscal Year 2016 budget.
The school bus company, First Student, asked the board to decide on an age for children to be dropped off or picked up alone. The board will vote to include kindergarten as the new recommended minimum grade level in the transportation agreement, which parents sign for their children to ride the school bus.
According to Board Member Colleen Scanlon’s resignation letter, she is stepping down for personal reasons effective immediately after the Board’s approval. Board bylaws require a vacancy to be filled within 30 days and the interim member would hold office until the next regular election.
The Board also will vote on the latest version of a form for the school district’s budget submission to the Borough. The form was created by the two bodies and comes ahead of the district’s submission for fiscal year 2016. Board members also will be able to review another draft of next year’s budget.
Wednesday’s meeting starts at 6 p.m. in Borough Assembly chambers at the White Cliff Building. Public comment will be heard at the start and end of the meeting.
