A 26-year-old Metlakatla woman who fell out of her canoe Sunday afternoon, swam to the shore of Pennock Island and quickly was picked up and taken home by the U.S. Coast Guard.
According to the Coast Guard, the woman was able to contact the Ketchikan Police Department after she reached shore. Police then called the Coast Guard.
A Station Ketchikan 25-foot Response Boat and its crew picked up the woman and took to her family in Annette Bay.
The Coast Guard reports that the woman was wearing her life jacket.
