A Saxman man faces multiple charges for an alleged domestic violence assault yesterday.
John Sherwood, 41 years old, is charged with third-degree felony assault, as well as fourth-degree assault, interfering with a report of crime involving domestic violence, and criminal mischief in the fourth-degree.
According to the complaint filed in court, Sherwood choked out his girlfriend, tried to smother her with his hands and stomped on her head and phone after a night of drinking early Thursday morning. Troopers say Sherwood denied the allegations and said the victim was upset with him because of another woman.
Sherwood faces up to five years in prison and a $50,000 fine for the felony, and one year and $10,000 for each misdemeanor. He was arraigned in Ketchikan District Court today. His bail was set at $10,000 cash, and his next court appearance is Oct. 13.
