The communities of Ketchikan and Craig are officially “Tsunami-ready.”
According to the National Oceanic and Atmospheric Administration, both cities earned the recognition after demonstrating that government officials, residents, business owners and visitors are prepared for the potential of a tsunami.
Specifically, the communities developed response plans and communications infrastructures, identified hazard zones and evacuation signs, and promoted public awareness.
Road signs declaring Ketchikan and Craig as tsunami ready have been presented to both communities, according to NOAA.
